As We Age
dealing with changeThe Eye’s Decline
As we age, there are natural changes that occur in our eyesight, including a decreased ability to see detail, faded colours, increased sensitivity to glare, and a reduced ability to adjust to changes in brightness. These changes are often due to the ageing of the eye’s lens and the muscles that control it. Additionally, our eyes are more susceptible to conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
To maintain healthy eyesight as we age, it is important to have regular eye exams and to maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet and exercise. It may be that we need to add a pair of sunglasses or increase UV protection in our lens prescription.
At Arnolds, we can advise on the changes in your sight and what we can do to keep your eyes healthy.

Some tips to keep your eyes healthy
- Get regular eye check ups
- Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun
- Eat healthily, particularly loads of fruit and vegetables which are rich in the nutrients that are important for good eye health
- Stop smoking. Smoking is harmful to eyes – research has shown that smoking increases the risk of age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts. Cigarette smoke irritates the eyes and will worsen dry eyes.
